January 1, 2020–we began a new year today; also, a new decade. This is the time to wipe the slate clean and start afresh. Put away the past and begin to concentrate on the future. So, how many of you made a new year’s resolution?
Last Sunday, the pastor speaking at our church said, “New Year’s is the one day a year you make a promise to yourself that you don’t keep”. Wow! That is profound! I have never thought about it in that way before. We all usually make a resolution as we begin the new year. The top 3 new year’s resolutions according to Google are,
- Lose Weight and Get Fit.
- Quit Smoking.
- Learn Something New.
Last year I made the resolution to stop doubting my value. I know I am not the only person who has questioned themselves, but I wanted to make a real effort in 2019. I wanted to stop doubting myself and especially how much value my life holds. That may resonate with you or maybe you haven’t ever felt that way, but for me, it as been a struggle for many years. I have struggled with depression, anxiety and even thoughts of suicide. I figured if I wasn’t good enough, what was the point? So, last year I decided I was not going to allow those feeling to control my life and steal my joy.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
That is the perfect verse for today. We are a new creation in Christ.
Matthew 19:26, “…but with God all things are possible”.
Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me”.
Luke 1:37, “For nothing will be impossible with God”.
2019 brought a lot of changes and challenges to my life. A new job, a new grandson, a new attitude and new goals. I have always wanted to write, so in 2019 I started this blog. 2020 will be equally as challenging and hopefully as rewarding. Above all, let us remember that in Christ, we can achieve all things within his will. Nothing is impossible and the goals we set are attainable within his power and his strength. Go ahead and make your resolutions, but don’t negate the relationship you have in Christ. Proceed into 2020 knowing you are a new creation in Christ. Don’t allow Satan to steal your joy or control your life. Keep your promise to yourself.
You are valuable. You are worthy. You are loved.
