Building in the dark…

Have you ever built something? Taken raw wood, measured, cut, and assembled it—creating something useful and beautiful? Now, imagine building a house. You have the blueprints and materials. You have the land. The only thing you do not have is light. I want you to imagine building a house in complete darkness! How would you see the blueprints? How would you measure? How would you assemble? It would be impossible to build anything beautiful, much less structurally sound, working in complete darkness. That my friend, is how your life is without the light of Jesus Christ.

You’ve heard of John 3:16. It is probably the most known and quoted bible verse. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John continues in verse 17-21, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come into the light, lest his works be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

We have all seen the darkness. As I type, the world seems to be fallen further away from the light, as war ravages and destruction devours. I have found myself in the valley of despair, not understanding why these things are happening. I am afraid. I am angry. I even started to doubt. But then I remembered Satan’s ultimate goal is to undermine the foundation of who God is. Satan cannot change God, but he can try to change how we see Him. And in that, is the truth of darkness!  We cannot find our way out of the darkness of this world if we don’t trust who the true source of light is! We must, even as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, trust the character of God. He is our light, our hope, the sustainer of all things. The wicked of this world thumb their noses at the Lord Almighty. They curse Him and in their stubborn willfulness, they choose to walk further away from His light and deeper and deeper into the darkness.

Where do you find yourself today? Are you trying to build your life in the darkness? Have you allowed your stubborn nature to blind you to the truth of who God really is? Do you comprehend His power and the vast scope of His grace and love? I beg you, stop and take hold of the Light and accept the gift of His grace and forgiveness. God loves you so much—Jesus chose to leave His throne in Heaven, walk the earth as a man, and ultimately be nailed to a cross—suffering and dying for you! Turn away from the darkness of your life and accept the gift of eternal life He is offering you. Let Him be the light as you navigate through the darkness of this world.  “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.” (John 12:46)
