You can’t customize God…

All throughout time, man has tried to fit God into a box that will suit him. If there is an attribute of God that makes us a little uncomfortable, we simply take it out and fill in the hole with a part of God that we like. We don’t want to think about a vengeful God who will hold us accountable, so we simply believe that God is love. We don’t want to believe in an all-powerful God, so we embrace the theory of evolution. But no matter how we try to alter God and make him fit our likeness, God is God! He is unique, infinite, eternal, unchanging and He is personal. It’s like when I order a supreme pizza and I ask them to leave off the onion—God isn’t a pizza you can customize!

  • God is omnipotent—all powerful.
    • Isaiah 40:25-27, “‘To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?’ says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

God is so powerful that His spoken word, brought forth the universe! His infinite power created everything! And as we attempt to reconcile that in our human mind, we attempt to change His power to fit our understanding. Yet, His power speaks for itself, and we have no defense! Romans 1:20, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities— his eternal power and divine nature— have been clearly seen, being understood what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

  • He is omnipresent—in all places at all times.
    • Psalm 139:7-10, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”

God is present with us, all of us, at all times. There is no place where we can hide from Him. What encouragement! We are never truly alone!

  • He is omniscient—all knowing.
    • Isaiah 55:8-9, “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways’, declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your thoughts.’”

God sees all and knows all. Yet in that, He seeks a relationship with us. As a father loves his children, God longs for us to come to Him. He seeks us in the darkness of this world to bring us into His presence where He will make us part of His family.

  • He is omnibenevolent—supremely good.
    • John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

God, in His infinite power and love, knew that there was no way for us to be saved from our wickedness, other than the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. For God is incapable of overlooking our sin. His very nature demands that we be held accountable for our wickedness, and therefore our only hope—the only way to escape the wrath of God’s righteous anger, is through the blood of Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross! For God in His love, died for our sins to save us from His own punishment!

I challenge you today to look at God—the real God—not the man-made version you have created that makes you feel warm and fuzzy! For we have no way to escape His presence or His power—He sees us—He knows us—We cannot hide from Him! Our ONLY hope is to submit to His authority, to humble ourselves and to accept His outstretched hands! He is seeking you in order to save you! Don’t cheapen His sacrifice on the cross by thinking you can do this on your own. You cannot!
