Easter egg…

For those of us who are movie nerds, loving all things Sci-fi and superhero, we get so excited when we find a hidden reference or clue to our hero’s journey; an easter egg! An easter egg in a movie, is a hidden reference, a clue or an inside joke that has been placed into a TV show, video game or movie. Much like a secret love letter to the fans or an inside joke from the creator. Easter eggs are something the creator has concealed, especially for you to look for and find. It could be having Lou Ferrigno play a cameo in the Avengers movie, or it could be a picture of Hercules (played by Kevin Sorbo) hanging on the wall in the movie “Let There Be Light”.  Each time one is spotted, a movie fan such as I, will shout and point, getting excited at the clue that we have just discovered.

Did you know that there are easter eggs in the Bible? When Jesus Christ walked this earth, he fulfilled 351 old testament prophecies. Easter Sunday is the celebration of when Christ rose from the dead, breaking the curse of sin and restoring our relationship with God the Father. The Bible is full of clues to who Jesus is, from the first book of Genesis to the last book, Revelation. It’s a compilation of writings, telling His Story-not just “history”. Can you think of a better easter egg? “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5) Jesus, who was God in the beginning of time—is the same Jesus who came to live among us. He is the same Jesus who died on a cross and then came back to life three days later, conquering sin and restoring our relationship with God the Father.

The book of Job is an ancient text, depicting a righteous man who God allows Satan to test. During the story, Job cried out to God in his desperation and questions him. Job, knowing that he is merely a man and that he cannot go before the great throne of the most high, wishes he had someone to mediate for him—an intermediary between himself and God. “He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court. If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together…” (Job 9:32-33) Do you see it friends? Jesus is the intermediary between ourselves and God!

An easter egg in a movie is a clue that is hidden by the author for you to find. But Jesus, who is also the author of life, is not hidden. He was hung on a cross for all the world to see! He is the Lamb, the only one in heaven worthy to open the scroll at the end of days. He is the ultimate clue to God’s love. The one who was in the beginning and who made all things, is also the sacrifice that will restore you to the Father God. Though we live in the darkness, we have Jesus as our light. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
