This week we in the US will choose a new president. We have the freedom to choose who our leader will be for the next 4 years. But did you know that you also have the freedom to choose where you will spend eternity? You have the choice to spend all of eternity with God in paradise. Or you can choose to spend all of eternity in darkness, separated from the God who created you. Think about that for a minute…all of eternity! Which would you choose—life in the light and loving embrace of God, or eternity in the darkness that will come from separation from God?
It seems like such a simple choice. Who in their right mind would choose darkness? Why would you choose separation over love? Well, if you don’t make a choice, the absence of your choice, becomes your choice. You must choose! It’s like the election. If you don’t vote, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to abide by the laws that come with the newly elected leaders. It just means that you forfeited your voice. So, if you don’t choose God, if you don’t choose to follow him, to accept his free gift of salvation, you are forfeiting your place in heaven. Romans, 1:20, “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and the sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So, they have no excuse for not knowing God.”
I can here you say, “If God is such a loving God, why would he punish anyone with eternal separation?” I do not know the mind of God, but I do know that he loves everyone, and Jesus left Paradise to prove that. Without the sacrifice at the cross, the death of Jesus, paying our penalty, relationship with God would be impossible. Jesus, who is God in the flesh, was born for the sole purpose of redeeming us to God. He is the bridge that covers the great chasm of our sin and allows us to reach God the Father. So, knowing how much God loves you and how much suffering Jesus took upon himself at the cross for you, how can you not choose him?
I know I am speaking boldly, and I pray your heart will be open to my words. John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Tomorrow many of us will make our choice for president of the United States. That decision carries with it the ramifications of the next four years. I urge you to make a choice today, that will impact your eternity. I urge you to choose life. I urge you to choose joy. And I pray you will choose the love of Jesus that was poured out for your sins at the cross. Please friend, do not put off your choice, but decide today to put aside your sins and accept the free gift of everlasting life, from God the Father and Christ is son.
If you would like to accept Jesus Christ as your savior, simply pray this prayer,
“Dear God,
I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness.
I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son.
I believe that He died for my sins and that you raised Him to life.
I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord,
from this day forward.
Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen”
