Spinning your wheels…

Do you ever feel like you are spinning your wheels? I do—often! My husband and I were talking the other night and I asked him how women like, Amy Coney Barrett, seem to be able to “do it all”. She is the mother of 7 children, a federal judge, has a husband and a home to care for and obviously finds time to work out. I am in awe! Where does she find all that extra time? My husband laughed and said, “she probably doesn’t sit and watch tv at night”. This is so true! But honestly, do you ever look at highly successful women and just wonder, “do they get more than 24 hours in their day”?

I recently signed up for 2 online mini courses for work. I also am in a women’s bible study that meets once a month, so I have those lessons to complete. I am doing a 30-day devotional challenge for the month of October. I am working on my goal of running a mile. I teach morning children’s Sunday School and evening youth group at our church. Then, in between, I am working a 40-hour week and taking care of all the needs that come with a home and family. This morning, I realized that it has been almost a week since I quieted myself before the Lord and even opened my bible! No wonder I feel so discombobulated!

In order to serve the Lord and maintain the pace that we find ourselves trying to keep up with, we must take time to STOP and be silent before the Lord. We—I, cannot keep up the frenzy for very long before I feel like I have hit a wall! We need God’s spirit, encouraging us, feeding us, keeping us lifted up, so that we can do his will for our families and our world. And where are we without prayer? Paul told the church in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” David wrote in Psalm 37:7, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him…”. Wait patiently—that is a skill I have yet to master! I am ADHD, OCD, —and probably a few other labels we could find. Waiting and Patiently are not in my DNA. But isn’t it wonderful that I don’t have to rely on my own strength to do it all? Philippians 4:3, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

So, my friend, if you sometimes feel like you are spinning your wheels and the list of tasks you have to complete, keeps multiplying exponentially, take heart! The Lord isn’t going to judge you by your checklist. He loves you. He only desires that you take a breath, calm your spirit and rest in his care. He is always here for you, 24 hours a day.
