Perspective

Perspective—an attitude toward something, or a point of view. Perspective is derived from the Latin root meaning “look through” or “perceive”. So, your perspective is how you view or see a particular situation. Perspective affects everything…your opinions, your very nature of how you interact in this world.

For example, I grew up in a home where my dad used drugs. He didn’t care if we had food on the table, as long as he had his drugs and alcohol. Because of that experience, I am not able to embrace the legalization of drugs. It’s not that I don’t see the value in medical Marijuana. I am just not able to take out the emotion of my experiences. We all have something that drives our beliefs, either spiritually, physically, or politically. I have always been very interested in politics, and justice, even as a young child. My perspective, my experiences, shaped me to become the person I am today.

My question to you, what have you built your perspectives on? Ken Ham is a Christian leader who authored the apologetics ministry “Answers in Genesis”. He teaches that we should look at culture and science through the lens of a biblical worldview. His perspective always begins at the word of God. Choosing where your perspective begins, will shape every decision you make and every opinion you hold.

I have written many times about my fight with fear, anxiety, and depression. I choose to look to the Lord for my hope. I choose to search his word for his comfort when the world is spinning out of control. Now, I will tell you, Satan can only push me so far in my fear. I will get to a point where he has pushed me and then I become angry and I am ready to fight! I will literally say to Satan “Bring it on!” Why? Because of my perspective…I know I am a child of the most high God. I know who sits on the throne and I know that no power formed against me shall prosper!

I challenge you today to examine your perspective. Are you a glass half full person or a glass half empty? Do you see the storm clouds and rejoice for the rain that will bring life to the earth or do you fear the thunder and the wind? Do you see hope or destruction on the horizon? And if you do feel fear, as we all do from time to time, where do you go? I choose to seek Him. I choose to lay my burdens at the cross and as hard as it is, I try to walk away and leave them with him! I am not always successful, but that’s what so powerful about my Lord Jesus! He doesn’t expect perfection. He sees my heart and knows my pain. He wants me to trust him. I Will Fear No More!

I will continue to look to him. And as I seek him, the bible promises, I will find him. Psalm 91:14-15, “Because he has focused his love on me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honor him.” I will strive to have my perspective match his…seeing the world as he does. And I will pray for his intersession to those who are lost in the darkness and who’s perspective is skewed by the enemy. Jeremiah 24:7, “I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole hearts.”
