Battle Cry

How do you combat evil? Our world seems to be spinning out of control—pockets of hate, permeating our communities, fighting to destroy our country. CNN news anchor, Don Lemon, made this statement a couple weeks ago. “Jesus Christ — if you believe in, if that’s who you believe in, Jesus Christ — admittedly was not perfect when he was here on this earth.”

This great lie is being forced on all who would hear his words, fueled by the father of lies and the originator of hate, Satan. Don Lemon may not believe in Jesus, but Satan can still use Don Lemon to spread lies and to sow doubt. The god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:4 . Satan is the god of this age. Many who have not found Jesus have been blinded by his lies and are living in darkness. So, how do we, as Christians, fight against this evil?

John 1:1—In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Unpacking this verse, we know that “the Word” is another name for Jesus. So, In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. Jesus was with God in the beginning. Through Jesus all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In Jesus was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. So to counter the blasphemous claim of Don Lemon, Jesus was God and he was in the beginning at the time of creation. Jesus was perfect! Jesus was God! Jesus is our only hope for the darkness that threatens to overcome us!

Are we living in the last days? Paul warns Timothy in Timothy 3—You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

So, how do we fight hate? We teach our children! We teach them to be discerning, to love God and to run from evil. We teach them that they are not governed by their “feelings”. We pray and we study his words. But above all, we love! Christ is the author of life. He was in the beginning with God, creating the world. Then, after the world fell into darkness, he came and he lived a PERFECT life, so that he could die on the cross. The entire reason Jesus was born, was to die! He couldn’t let his beloved children pass into darkness without a way to redemption. At the cross, he bled, and died for you, and for me.

One final point, my friends, loving isn’t the same as accepting. We are called to love our enemies but hate their sin. God didn’t create us to be a doormat. He created us to be an army! So, gather your weapons. Show love to your fellow man. Live your life standing in HIS truth and his love and let’s take back this nation and make it once again, “One nation Under God”.
