I haven’t written anything on my blog in over a week. I haven’t felt that big inspiration to write something profound, but this morning as I was getting ready for work, something occurred to me. Our daily lives are not normally full of profound moments. It’s just life. The daily grind of work, family and that never ending “to do” list.
Our daily walk with the Lord isn’t about having great philosophical discussions about Josephus or understanding the deep meaning of the book of Revelation. It’s about us and how we walk through this world and our lives every day. It’s getting up early to run on the treadmill before going to work. It’s putting in the time at work and then picking up groceries before going home to work on laundry. It’s about wrestling on the floor with the grandkids or taking them to the park. It’s about giving thanks when your day and your task list is never ending. 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Colossians 3:23, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Our life, this journey, is complicated but that doesn’t mean our relationship with Christ needs to be.
Christ just wants us to talk to him. He isn’t looking for some long-winded prayer with big flowery words. He just wants you to talk to him. “Lord, today is going to be tough and I am asking you to give me your strength”. He wants you to know his heart, by reading his word. It doesn’t have to be a “read the bible in a year” challenge. It can be a simple daily devotional. The purpose is for him to draw our attention away from the scrolling list of today’s agenda and focus on him for just a few minutes. Put aside the noise in your head, read from his word and then close your eyes and listen to him speak to your heart. You don’t even have to say anything. Just listen—
Our daily grind can be overwhelming. Adulting is hard! But our relationship with Christ doesn’t have to be. He loves each one of us and he only wants to sit with you and have a conversation. Open your heart and open your bible for a few minutes today and feel his Spirit as he speaks to you. Psalm 143:8, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”
