Lauren Daigle just made history with her song, “You Say”, breaking Billboard records and becoming the biggest Christian song of all time. That is quite an accomplishment for the young 28 year old singer. What struck me when I heard her song, beyond the raw emotion and the powerful lyrics, was her questions-her doubt.
“You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
And when I don’t belong, oh you say I am yours”
As a 52 year old woman, who always sees the weight she needs to lose, the mistakes she wishes to take back and the person she wishes she could be–I am amazed! Lauren is a beautiful, young, talented, successful, famous singer and yet, she still questions. Just like I do! Why is that? Why do we women seem to all share the same struggle? Why do we doubt what God has created? Let’s take a look at her lyrics again,
“You say I am love when I can’t feel a thing”
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
“You say I am strong when I think I am weak”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me”.
Isaiah 40:29-31 “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
“You say I am held when I am falling short”
Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear;I will help you.“
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God“
And when I don’t belong, oh you say I am yours.
Psalm 100:3 “Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Psalm 139:13 ” For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.“
The Bible is filled with verses about God’s love, his protection, his strength and his redemption. History or His Story- everything in the Bible points us to Christ and how much we mean to him. The Bible contains approximately 783,137 words, all of them pointing the way to the cross. If Christ would die for me, why then do I question my worth? Why do any of us?
